In 2024 Chris SaintCavish approached me to help turn his decades of Chinese cuisine experience and research into a series of documentaries for YouTube. We approached this with minimal funding and a skeleton crew of a couple of researchers, me, my assistant, and Chris as a host. By the time we posted 4 videos, we had sailed past a million views on the channel, blowing away our expectations.
I've always loved telling stories about China through food, so this partnership gave me a chance to really play with the topic, get into kitchens and factories around China, and get up close with the incredible breadth of China's countless cuisines.
It’s an ambitious project, launching a documentary twice a month, but shooting and editing these projects are up my alley.
